Decorated Towel 01

Decorated Towel 01 (Evciyar/Yaglik)

Embroidered on linen, 46 cm wide and 128 cm long; a single motif of two flowers and leaves, repeated 7 times across the width of cloth and forming two rows; worked in counted-thread technique and satin stitch in colors black, brown, beige and olive green; height of the embroidery from the tip of flowers to edge of cloth, excluding the tassels, 13 cm. This textile is more in the category of hand towels (peshkir) because of its tassels.

Decorated Towel 02 (Evciyar/Yaglik)

Embroidered on linen, 43 cm wide and 134 cm long; meandering stem of flowers (flowing water motif) with angular turns; worked in counted-thread technique and satin stitch in colors of light brown, green, light and dark blue, burgundy and fuchsia, metallic thread (gold strips); height of the embroidery from the tip of flowers to edge of cloth, 18 cm

Decorated Towel 03

Decorated Towel 03 (Evciyar/Yaglik)

Embroidered on linen, 52 cm wide and 134 cm long; a meandering stem of pomegranates and grapes (flowing water motif); worked in counted-thread technique in colors of black, lavender and purple, burgundy and pink, light and dark green, metallic thread (gold); height of the embroidery from the tip of flowers to edge of cloth, 13 cm

Decorated Towel 04

Decorated Towel 04 (Evciyar/Yaglik)

Embroidered on linen, 45 cm wide and 152 cm long; the traditional motif of rose, surrounded by hyacinths and placed in a vase; worked in counted-thread technique in colors of light green, light and dark blue, red, cream, beige, lavender and metallic thread (gold strips); main motif repeated three times along the width of cloth; height of the embroidery from the tip of square decorations in metallic thread to the end of cloth, 25 cm. Note: This motif, a main flower (rose), with a bending stem of hyacinths, is commonly seen in Turkish embroidery.

Decorated Towel 05

Decorated Towel 05 (Evciyar/Yaglik)

Embroidered on cotton (cambric), about 52 cm wide*; an elaborate motif of Tree of Life, worked in double running, Turkic and satin stitches; the triangular base and middle of the main flower, filled in mushabak stitch; shades of lavender, light blue, creme, white, yellow and metallic thread (gold strip); motif repeated twice along the width of cloth; height of the embroidery from the tip of leaves to the base of vase, 17 cm.
Note: * The embroidered piece is a fragment; the two ends have been cut and finished with crocheted edging to serve as a cover. From the width of the existing piece, one can assume that this was intended as a decorated towel.
